TES Annual Report
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM: WELLBEING
Each Section has programmes deriving from their countries’ curriculums, but in addition to these, the school has a counselling team, based on both the primary and secondary campuses to assist with the wellbeing of students. Activities are run by the counselling team to raise awareness of the importance of social and emotional wellness and individual support is offered and received by students as needed.
Here you can read a little more about how each Section has continued to make wellbeing a priority.
British Primary Section PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) is a vital curricular component, and is taught from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as 1/7 of the curriculum with 1/3 of it being the prime area of learning. In Years 1-6, PSHE is taught as an hourly lesson from part of a bespoke, progressive curriculum which covers three main areas: relationships, health & wellbeing, and citizenship (being part of the wider world). It also includes anti-bullying units across phases, and sex education in KS2. These lessons provide opportunities for children to discuss relationships and focus on feelings, developing discussions and strategies to support learners’ understanding of themselves and those around them. To further encourage and support wellbeing, the weeks at the beginning of Term 2 have a whole school focus on wellbeing, with the general aim of coinciding this with Children’s Mental Health Week. Anti-bullying teaching also coincides with Anti-Bullying Week in the UK. Wellbeing is also encouraged through a variety of whole school events, assemblies (year group or phase), and celebrating achievements. In addition, safeguarding lessons are also a part of the PSHE programme to ensure our learners understand their rights and matters pertaining to their safety and wellbeing off or online. French Section The Pastoral Care team continues to play a crucial role as a central element of students' educational experience. It offers much more than classroom lessons, actively encouraging students to engage in extracurricular activities, cultural events, and community projects. These enriching experiences foster social, emotional, and academic development, creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Various activities are organised to encourage student engagement. This includes, but is not limited to, volunteer projects, educational outings, cultural events, and other sports activities. Students also participate in sustainable development projects that enhance their creativity and foster a sense of belonging within the school community. Moreover, our Pastoral Care team plays a vital role by providing personalised support to students, helping them overcome academic and personal obstacles. Through this active involvement in school life, students in the French Section of TES are prepared to succeed both academically and personally, equipped with confidence and determination for their future studies and careers.
