TES Annual Report
In addition to KidWind, this year two dedicated student teams took part in the Pacific American School VEX Robotics competition (PASVEX) . The event emphasises the values of autonomous learning and practical education, showcasing students' innovation, engineering skills, and teamwork. The TES students put their minds, creativity, and collaborative skills to the test in a challenge that brought Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to life. This year’s competition featured 60 elite teams from various countries and notable guests, including industry leaders and academic professionals, who were in attendance at the closing ceremony to present awards and commend the participants' achievements. Competing against other schools, our TES teams demonstrated not only technical skill but also innovation and professionalism. The experience lit a spark in many of them—some are already planning next year’s designs, others are exploring careers in engineering or computer science, and all walked away with a deeper confidence in their ability to solve problems and innovate. VEX Robotics provides students with a hands-on, high-impact way to explore real-world applications of classroom learning. From brainstorming and design to programming and testing, our teams experienced the full engineering process. TES students worked tirelessly to create robots that could compete in complex movement and control tasks. Along the way they constantly iterated on their designs, overcame obstacles, and learned from failures. Students were inspired by the competition with a chance to work together as a team to apply what they had learned in school. In Year 8 and 9 MYP Design classes this year, students developed skills in using the VEX robotics systems to design and code robots to perform specific tasks that helped various people. The knowledge and understanding of coding gives students an appreciation for the products we use on a daily basis and an insight into the process that computer programmers go through to develop these.
