TES Annual Report

COMMUNITY AND ENGAGEMENT

It was a very full year of community activities organised both in conjunction with the Parent Support Council (PSC) and the various section Parent Associations (PAs). Coffee mornings in August and Septem ber began the year off for all the new parents and existing parents to join and get actively involved with the school. Whilst efforts to prepare the Autumn Festival on 4 October were made, unfortunately the event had to be cancelled due to the Typhoon which battered the island that week. So, without a break in stride, the PSC moved on to preparations for the Christmas Bazaar, on 30 Novem ber, which, thankfully, enjoyed glorious weather that day. The event adjustments for set up, given the new building site at the primary campus, were managed and the event went by without a hitch and with a huge school community and local presence. The day was full of entertainment from student perfor mances and student-run stalls, lots of food vendor options and there was even a Pantomime! There was a lot of money raised for charities during the event too. Hot on the heels of Christmas came the Lunar New Year celebrations, with an Asian food fair organised by the ESCPA for the secondary students and a traditional New Year food tasting event for all primary students organised by the PAs. Both events were very appreciated by the students and greatly support ed by a large parent presence. The main parent event ‘TES Parent Gala’ was held in March this year, to ensure no clashes with other similar events in the wider community, often held in April/May. Held at the Marriott Hotel in Dazhi, the event was a sell-out and the over 300-strong attendees from parents, teachers, Board of Directors, had a great time dressed up in the ‘Rockabilly’ themed costumes. Entertainment came from student and par ent rock bands, and the vibe was great. The week of Europe Day was especially busy as the student choirs and some secondary musicians joined two pre-concert events at the National Concert Hall as part of the Europe Day Concert Series organised by the European Economic Trade Office (EETO). It was an amazing experience to perform in such a ven ue. The school’s annual ‘Europe Day’ event, held at the primary campus, finished off this week with our honoured guests very much appreciating the musical and presentation talents displayed at the event. These were the large school events, but the Parent Associations ran many more events for the students to enjoy, like the ESCPA Halloween event and the EPC Fun Run, to name a few. The school also maintained its connections with outside organised events to give more performance opportunities to our students, such as Regent Hotel Christmas Tree Lighting, ECCT Christmas Luncheon, and the TES Flea Market. Without the continued desire to engage with the school, engage with the students and provide fun and interesting activities, the great community fabric that TES embodies would be lost. So thank you to all the parents that gave their time to help out. One special community opportunity, for the parents and faculty, came up in 2025, as Taipei was the host nation for the World Masters Games, an event which provided over-35-year-old sports persons from across the world the opportunity to compete in a vast array of sports. So the TES Community entered a men’s over-40 team to the football competition. A group of teachers and parents banded together, trained, and competed in the event, playing four qualifying games and reaching the final which they won 1-0 against a team from Mongolia to be World Masters Games champions! Finally, this year the ‘TES Sun Voices’ choir was set up, a Community choir open to all parents and staff - meeting Monday evenings, and which had a great attendance. The group had several performances throughout the year, at the Christmas Bazaar, Parent Gala and also the ESC Spring concert.
