When autumn is setting in, the weather gets cool er and the days shorter, then a time comes for the kin dergarten and primary school of the German section when we prepare for St. Martin’s Day and the lantern parade.
Why do we celebrate St. Martin’s Day on November 11th?
Martin was a Roman soldier who was born around 316 AD. According to legend, he rode past a starving and freez ing beggar on a cold winter’s day who he felt so sorry for that Martin used his sword to cut a piece of bread and his warm cloak in half and gave each to the beggar. That night, the beggar appeared to Martin in a dream and revealed himself to be Jesus Christ. After this experience, Martin was baptised and the people of the city of Tours (now France)
