From Roots to Growth A Year of Community Engagement at Taipei European School

Earlier this year, we reflected on how community engagement was deepening our roots at Taipei European School by grounding our learning in meaningful relationships and shared values. Since then, those roots have continued to grow, extending outward into new partnerships, deeper learning experiences, and stronger student leadership. What is emerging is not simply a collection of initiatives but a cul ture, one in which learning is increasingly connected to the world beyond the classroom, and in which students begin to see themselves as active participants in it.

Shaping Our School Values Through Community Engagement

Community engagement has become an increasingly living expression of our school’s values. Across campus es and sections, students are encouraged to look out ward to understand the needs, strengths, and stories within the communities around them. This shift is not about adding something extra, but about grounding learning in authenticity. Through partnerships, local initiatives, and global perspec tives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), students begin to see themselves not just as learners but as contributors. Empathy, responsibility, and agency are no longer abstract ideas, but are prac tised, reflected upon, and lived.
