TES Annual Report

DOING WELL BY DOING GOOD

There have been great efforts from all parts of the TES community, especially with our Parent Associations working with students to ‘Do well by doing good’. The Parent Support Council (PSC) raised NT$90,000 from the Christmas Bazaar which were contributed directly to charity projects which the students were championing, like: the BPS Year 6 Formosa Bear charity, the High School CCA Crochet club supporting Tibetan Mastiff charity, and the four BSHS House charity projects supporting: Syn-Lu Welfare Foundation, ACT for Animals, SALT Collective, Taipei Orphan Welfare Foundation. The students raised NT$82,000 which when combined with the money raised at Christmas Bazaar and donated by the PSC, resulted in a significant contribution. In addition to money donations there have been book donations for local schools and the ESCPA worked with the Secondary Junior Student Council who spearheaded a charity project with Sapan Foundation, who received 3,000 pairs of sunglasses donated by the TES community for Nepalese villagers. British Primary Section BPS students continued to focus on ways that they could be active citizens of the world and ensure that they put helping others at the forefront of a lot of their learning and charitable efforts. The now annual FunRun got bigger this year; encompassing the entire EPC, and more than 200 students and parents gathered on a beautiful Saturday morning covering a more challenging course than last year’s, to raise funds for the Taiwan Disability Care Association. It was a fantastic community event where children, parents and teachers got active to raise money for a great cause. Additionally students got involved in a craft CCA offered by the BPS Art teacher Mr O’Callaghan and sold their wares during the Green Market to raise further sums for charity. Our students are constantly reflecting on the ways in which they can help others as they develop a greater understanding of their privilege and responsibility. French Section In the French sections, wellbeing remains central to our mission. Our goal is to create a school environment that fosters a positive climate and provides holistic support through both our curriculum and specialists like counsellors and educational psychologists. Our actions included proactive measures such as developing students' social and emotional learning (SEL) skills—specifically self-awareness, empathy, and responsible decision-making. These skills were essential for facilitating harmonious coexistence and were supported by encouraging open debate and spontaneous speaking to promote constructive communication. Holistic support was integrated into teaching by addressing students' social, emotional, and physical needs, providing access to resources. To address conflict, the school used the non-blaming 'Shared Concern Method,' which involved private discussions to guide all parties toward a resolution. Our digital citizenship curriculum was refined to address topics like 'Media Balance & Wellbeing', 'Privacy & Security', 'Digital Footprint & Identity', 'Relationships & Communication', and 'Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech'. The promotion of health, a key aspect of wellbeing, was addressed through various educational activities and workshops on healthy online habits, nutrition, and mental health. Additionally, the school pursued the E3D label by embedding environmental sustainability into the curriculum and planning student-led committees. This focus on environmental responsibility contributed to wellbeing by giving students a sense of purpose and agency. The success of these initiatives was measured through regular student surveys on school climate and belonging, as well as by tracking the use of our support service. German Section GS engaged in various activities where the actions were aimed at benefiting others or the community, leading to positive outcomes for the school and its members. Running for a Charitable Cause: The First TES FUN RUN With All Three Sections is a clear example. Students, siblings, and parents from the German section participated alongside other sections, running to raise money for the Taiwan Disability Care Association. The strong involvement of parents in various school activities demonstrates a commitment to doing good for the community, which in turn benefits the school environment.
